Local and interstate artists IMAGINE ALICE

Three artists from distant parts of Australia recently experienced the feel of Alice Springs by camping in the Todd River with local artists.

The gathering was part of the IMAGINE ALICE symposium, a week long forum where artists got to know each other and developed ideas and concepts for installations, exhibitions and associated events for the IMAGINE ALICE program – one of the highlights of art at the heart.

Lucy Kenneth in addition to being the director of RedHOT Arts and a director of Regional Arts Australia is one of the organisers of IMAGINE ALICE. ‘The IMAGINE ALICE symposium is the beginning of a most exciting and art filled couple of months for this town. There are now less than 8 weeks until art at the heart which will bring many hundreds of artists and arts workers here from right around Australia. Sitting around the campfire on the banks of the Todd was a great way to get the sparks of inspiration flying as we all prepare for the IMAGINE ALICE launch on 11 September 2008. The program will give locals and visitors an experience like no other, with the work of local and interstate artists dotted throughout the town.”

Participate in MAP ME

Map Me. a collaborative installation will take place in the foyer of the Alice Springs Convention Centre throughout art at the heart.

Delegates and visitors are invited to bring a picture or a business card to the conference to stick on the wall and connect their presence to the people they know. As the exhibition and the conference progresses, the walls will be filled with representations of individuals while the room comes to life with threads of connections.

Referencing online networking platforms such as MySpace and Facebook, Map Me brings virtuality back into reality, making the act of networking, the connections and the people appear in real time and space.
